This time of year always brings a mix of emotions as we say goodbye to some of our little ones who are getting ready for their next chapter. One of those is DJ, who’s leaving Paradise Panther Cub Care to start kindergarten in the fall.
DJ is part of our family in more ways than one — his mom, Megan, is a beloved member of our staff. We sat down with her to reflect on this big transition.

How are you feeling about DJ starting kindergarten this fall? “I’m anxious,” Megan admitted. “I’m excited for him. I’m more nervous than he is.”
It’s a feeling many parents know all too well — being proud and hopeful, while also feeling the weight of how fast time moves.

What are some of your favorite memories from his time at daycare? “He’s always just had fun. I mean, every time he’s here. He’ll wake up every morning and tell me, ‘Time for school!’ He just really wants to be here.”

How have you seen him grow over the years? “He has come out of his shell. He doesn’t talk to a lot of people outside of school, but when he’s here, he’s very comfortable with all the teachers and his friends.”

Is DJ excited or nervous about kindergarten? “He’s excited to make new friends, go to school with his big brother, and ride the bus. But he’s also nervous about how big the school is.”
DJ will be attending Decatur ISD, and we know he’ll find his way — just like he did here.

What will you miss most about this phase of his life? “They’re only little once. Especially with their words. They have a certain way of pronouncing things, and I know that’s going to go away soon. And I’ll miss being with him here.”
There’s a tenderness in the way Megan talks about this stage- the silly little words, the routines, the closeness. It’s a reminder of how quickly these early years pass, and how meaningful it can be to share them in a place that feels like a second home.

We’ll miss DJ’s energy, his sweet smile, and the way he lit up each day here. And we’re so thankful to Megan for letting us be part of these early years. Kindergarten is a big step, but we know he’s ready.

We’ll be cheering him on, every step of the way.
